We had two days after Kinsale before we needed to be in Galway to get the ferry to Inishmore. We decided we should experience the midlands of Ireland. So on our way to Lough Derg in Tipperary (it’s a long way…) we go! The signs told us we were close to the Blarney Castle - it was a bunch of Blarney - it took us a while to get on the right road and when you actually get to the turn there was no sign! A few tiny winding roads later we were there! The Castle is a tower where at the top there is a legend that if you kiss the stone you will have good luck! It was an hour line up the tower so we decided to chance it with our own luck! The gardens and grounds were lovely and Pierre even found a cave to venture into.
From there we set off once again! Next stop lunch in Adare - a quaint town known for its Thatched roof cottages. Very pretty!
On to Lough Derg House for 2 nights. We had hoped to do some water activities but the weather was such that not even the fishermen were going out. Instead we hiked up to Millenium Cross - a Cross erected for the new millenium to replace and existing cross from 1932 that had collapsed into ruin (and hit by lightning)! It offered stunning views of the lake and valley in between rain showers!
